Four-time Tony Award winner Jerry Zaks will direct Show for Days, which will begin previews June 4, 2015, at the Mitzi E. Newhouse Theater. An opening night has been scheduled for June 29. Beane is the playwright of The Nance, The Little Dog Laughed, as well as the librettist for Cinderella and Lysistrata Jones.
According to LCT, "Show for Days is playwright Douglas Carter Beane’s fond remembrance of his immersion into a life in the theater. The comedy is set in Reading, Pennsylvania in 1973, when 14-year old Car, the play’s narrator and the author’s alter-ego, is introduced to the world of theater through his local community theatre, the Prometheus Theatre, and its devoted cast and crew which is led by Irene, an indomitable force of nature whose life is dedicated to putting on productions she directs, designs and stars in."
Preludes, which reunites Malloy with his Great Comet director Chavkin, will run May 23-July 19 at the Claire Tow Theater. It officially opens June 15. Malloy's Ghost Quartet is currently playing the Bushwick Starr.
The work is is billed as "a musical fantasia set in the hypnotized mind of Russian composer Sergei Rachmaninov. After the disastrous premiere of his first symphony, the young Rachmaninov suffers from writer’s block. He begins daily sessions with a therapeutic hypnotist, in an effort to overcome depression and return to composing."
It will have sets by Mimi Lien, costumes by Paloma Young, lights by Bradley King and sound by Matt Hubbs.
Casting for both productions will be announced at a later date.
