News Dixie Carter and Hal Holbrook Sail in Ludwig's Be My Baby Oct. 1 at Houston's Alley Dixie Carter and Hal Holbrook star in the Ken Ludwig world premiere comedy, Be My Baby, starting Oct. 1 at Houston's Alley Theatre.

Tony Award winner John Rando (Urinetown) directs the new comedy set to open Oct. 5 at the Texas company's Hubbard Stage for a run through Oct. 23. (Two preview performances were canceled due Hurricane Rita.)

From the mind of Leading Ladies author Ken Ludwig, comes a new comedy with real-life couple Carter and Holbrook starring as two "likeable characters who actually don't like each other very much, but are forced into a cross-Atlantic adventure to transport a newborn baby to her adoptive parents," according to show materials.

The cast of Be My Baby also features Alley Theatre vets Elizabeth Bunch (The Crucible, Steel Magnolias) and Ty Mayberry (Deathtrap, Spider's Web) along with James Black and Robin Moseley.

The design team includes Alexander Dodge (set), David Woolard (costumes), Donald Holder (lighting) and designer John Gromada (sound).

The new Alley Theatre season will continue with Dixie Carter and Hal Holbrook in the Ken Ludwig world premiere comedy Be My Baby (Sept. 30-Oct. 23) and A Christmas Carol – A Ghost Story of Christmas (Nov. 22-Dec. 28). The new year brings Culture Clash in AmeriCCa (Jan. 6-29, 2006), Martin McDonagh's The Pillowman (Jan. 27-Feb. 26, 2006), Garson Kanin's Born Yesterday (Feb. 24-March 19, 2006) starring Marisa Tomei, Austin Pendleton's Orson's Shadow (March 31-April 30, 2006), Theatre de la Jeune Lune's production of The Miser (April 7-30, 2006) and Agatha Christie's Witness for the Prosecution (May 12 June 4, 2006).
