Off-Broadway News Debra Jo Rupp to Star in Off-Broadway's The Cake at Manhattan Theatre Club Rupp will reprise her performance as Della in the New York premiere of Bekah Brunstetter's new play this winter.

Debra Jo Rupp will star as Della in the upcoming New York premiere of Bekah Brunstetter's play The Cake. Rupp, who has been seen onscreen in This Is Us and That 70s Show, will reprise the role of Della that she originated at Los Angeles' Echo Theatre and played at Barrington Stage Company and the Geffen Playhouse.

As previously announced, the Manhattan Theatre Club production of The Cake will be directed by artistic director Lynne Meadow and will begin performances February 12, 2019, at at New York City Center – Stage I. The production will officially open March 5.

In The Cake, a North Carolina baker (Rupp) is forced to re-examine her deeply held beliefs when her late-best-friend’s daughter asks her to make a cake for her lesbian wedding.

Brunstetter's other plays include Going to a Place Where You Already Are, Cutie and Bear, A Long and Happy Life, Oohrah!, and Be A Good Little Widow. She is a producer on NBC’s This is Us, and has previously written for MTV’s Underemployed, ABC Family’s Switched at Birth, and Starz’s American Gods.

Additional casting and creative team for the Off-Broadway premiere of The Cake will be announced at a later date. S
