The complete cast is set for Jen Silverman’s Collective Rage: A Play in 5 Betties, heading Off-Broadway beginning in August.
The production, directed by Mike Donahue, will kick off MCC Theater’s 2018–2019 season August 16, with opening night set for September 12 at the Lucille Lortel Theatre.
The company will feature Emmy winner Dana Delany (Desperate Housewives), Lea DeLaria (Orange Is the New Black), Ana Villafañe (On Your Feet!), Adina Verson (Indecent), and Chaunté Wayans (Fifty Shades of Black).
The play is titled, in full, Collective Rage: A Play In 5 Betties; In Essence, A Queer And Occasionally Hazardous Exploration; Do You Remember When You Were In Middle School And You Read About Shackleton And How He Explored The Antarctic? Imagine The Antarctic As A Pussy And It’s Sort Of Like That.
The new comedy, which premiered in 2017 at Washington, D.C.’s Woolly Mammoth Theatre Company, follows five women named Betty whose lives intersect when one decides to stage a play.
The design team for the New York premiere includes set designer Dane Laffrey, costume designer Dede Ayite, lighting designer Jen Schriever, sound designer Palmer Hefferan, and projection designer Caite Hevner.
