Leslie Jordan, who was previously announced to star opposite Stephen Spinella in the world premiere of WARHOLCAPOTE, has withdrawn from the American Repertory Theater production due to “unforeseen personal circumstances.” Assuming the role of Truman Capote from him will be Dan Butler.
Performances will now begin September 10 (a day later than the initially announced September 9) at the A.R.T.’s Loeb Drama Center, where it will run through October 13.Butler returns to the A.R.T. after appearing in All the Way as George Wallace. His Broadway credits include The Hothouse, Bioloxi Blues, and—most recently—the 2004 revival of Twentieth Century.
Directed by Michael Mayer and featuring a script by Rob Roth, WARHOLCAPOTE is adapted from a series of newly discovered tapes capturing conversations between Truman Capote and Andy Warhol. Their interactions centered on creating a Broadway show, and while that play never came to fruition, the collaboration between the two has been pieced together for a theatrical retelling of its own.
WARHOLCAPOTE will feature set design by Stanley Meyer, costume design by Clint Ramos, lighting design by Kevin Adams, sound design by John Gromada, and projection design by Darrel Maloney.
