Regional News Creative Teams Announced for Muny's 105th Season of Summer Musicals

The upcoming season at the outdoor St. Louis venue will launch in June with Beautiful: The Carole King Musical.

Creative teams have been announced for the 105th season of musical theatre at St. Louis, Missouri's The Muny, the country's largest outdoor theatre.

The season, as previously announced, will launch June 12-18 with the regional premiere of Beautiful: The Carole King MusicalMarcia Milgrom Dodge will direct the production with choreography by Patricia Wilcox and musical direction by conductor Charlie Alterman.

Disney's Beauty and the Beastrunning June 22-30, will feature direction by John Tartaglia, choreography by Patrick O'Neill, and music direction by conductor Ben Whiteley. Directing Chess, which runs July 5-11, will be Josh Rhodes. The production, presented in partnership with The St. Louis Chess Club and the World Chess Hall of Fame, will also have associate direction and choreography by Lee Wilkins, musical direction by conductor Jason DeBord, and associate musical direction by Michael Horsley.

Rob Ruggiero will helm the classic Arthur Laurents-Leonard Bernstein-Stephen Sondheim musical West Side Story, which will play the outdoor venue July 15-21. Parker Esse will reproduce Jerome Robbins and Peter Gennaro's original Broadway choreography, while musical director James Moore will conduct the orchestra.

The Howard Ashman-Alan Menken cult favorite Little Shop of Horrors, set to run July 25-31, will be staged by director Maggie Burrows and choreographer William Carlos Angulo with music director Andrew Graham conducting. Jonathan Larson's Pulitzer Prize-winning Rent will have direction by Lili-Anne Brown, choreography by Breon Arzell, and music direction by conductor Jermaine Hill. Performances of the East Village-set musical are scheduled for August 4-10.

Sister Act, based on the film of the same name, will conclude the Muny season, August 14-20. Denis Jones will direct and choreograph the musical with associate choreography by Barry Busby and music direction by conductor Sheilah Walker.

Casting and designers will be announced at a later time. The Telsey Office is the official casting partner of The Muny.

The Muny artistic staff includes Artistic Director and Executive Producer Mike Isaacson, Artistic Associate Michael Baxter, Production Manager Tracy Utzmyers, and Music Supervisor Michael Horsley.

Subscription renewals are currently available with new subscriptions set to go on sale March 20. Single show tickets will be available beginning May 22.
