Jordan will be succeeded by Corey Cott, who will become the show’s new leading man beginning Sept. 5. Cott became the Jack Kelly alternate earlier this month and will continue as alternate until he assumes the role full time.
Jordan is departing the production to work full time on his leading role on the second season of NBC’s "Smash."
Cott made his Broadway debut in Newsies just weeks after graduating from Carnegie Mellon University's School of Drama. He appeared in several productions at Pittsburgh CLO including Miss Saigon, The Sound of Music and Jesus Christ Superstar and recently in the New York reading of Bare directed by Stafford Arima.
Newsies was nominated for eight Tony Awards, including Best Book (Harvey Fierstein), Best Score (Jack Feldman and Alan Menken), Best Actor (Jeremy Jordan), Best Direction of a Musical (Jeff Calhoun) and Best Choreography (Christopher Gattelli). It won awards for Best Score and Best Choreography.
The Broadway company of Newsies features Jordan as Jack Kelly, John Dossett as Joseph Pulitzer, Kara Lindsay as Katherine Plumber, Capathia Jenkins as Medda Larkin, Ben Fankhauser as Davey, Andrew Keenan-Bolger as Crutchie, and Lewis Grosso and Matthew Schechter alternating in the role of Les.
