The four judges — Simon Cowell, Randy Jackson, Ellen DeGeneres and Kara DioGuardi — opted not to use the once-a-season "save," which allows the voted-off contestant to continue to the next week.
Tim Urban and Katie Stevens were the other contestants who received the least votes of the week.
The top 10 were mentored by Usher on the March 30 telecast of "Idol."
The nine contestants who will now vie for the "America Idol" title are Aaron Kelly, Andrew Garcia, Casey James, Crystal Bowersox, Katie Stevens, Lee Dewyze, Michael Lynche, Siobhan Magnus and Tim Urban. These nine — plus the ousted Didi Benami — will also be part of the summer "Idol" tour.
Among the many "American Idol" finalists and/or winners who have appeared on Broadway are Diana DeGarmo and Ace Young (both back on Broadway in Hair), Tamyra Gray, Constantine Maroulis (on Broadway in Rock of Ages), Frenchie Davis, Clay Aiken and Taylor Hicks (currently in the national tour of Grease).
