The all-Canadian production of Come From Away, currently playing the Royal Alexandra Theatre, has extended its run an additional four weeks and will now play its final performance May 4.
The international hit musical played its pre-Broadway engagement at Toronto’s Royal Alexandra in fall and winter 2016-2017. The current production began performances September 22, 2024.
The all-Canadian cast features Kyle Brown as Bob and others, Saccha Dennis as Hannah and others, Steffi Didomenicantonio as Janice and others, Barbara Fulton as Diane and others, Lisa Horner as Beulah and others, James Kall as Nick/Doug and others, Jeff Madden as Kevin T. /Garth and others, Ali Momen as Kevin J. /Ali and others, Cory O’Brien as Oz and others, Kristen Peace as Bonnie and others, David Silvestri as Claude and others, and Cailin Stadnyk as Beverley/Annette and others. Clint Butler, Kate Etienne, Barbara Johnston, Jawon Mapp, Sarah Nairne, and Aaron Walpole round out the company as standbys.
Come From Away, with music, lyrics, and a book by Irene Sankoff and David Hein, opened on Broadway March 12, 2017, going on to receive seven 2017 Tony nominations, including Best Musical. The work, which played its final Broadway performance in October 2022, tells the true story of 7,000 air passengers stranded in Gander, Newfoundland, in the wake of the September 11, 2001, terrorist attacks.
Following the Broadway opening, a Canadian company was rehearsed and had its first performance in a pre-Toronto engagement at the Royal Manitoba Theatre Centre January 4, 2018. The production transferred to Toronto and began performances February 13, 2018, at the Royal Alexandra, later closing March 13, 2020, due to the pandemic. It returned in December 2021, only to be shut down eight days later due to a new Covid strain. In July 2024, most of the original company reassembled, and performances began August 14 at Ottawa’s National Arts Centre English Theatre. The musical returned to its home at the Royal Alexandra September 22, 2024.
The musical has direction by Tony winner Christopher Ashley, musical staging by Kelly Devine, music supervision and arrangements by Ian Eisendrath, scenic design by Beowulf Boritt, costume design by Toni-Leslie James, lighting design by Howell Binkley, sound design by Gareth Owen, orchestrations by August Eriksmoen, and casting by Stephanie Gorin.
