George Clooney will direct the film, which is aiming to begin shooting in February 2011. Oscar and Tony winner Hoffman (Long Day's Journey…, "Capote") and Giamatti ("Sideways") appear set for the cast that could also bring Pine ("Star Trek") into the fold. Pine appeared in the Los Angeles run of the play in 2009.
NY Magazine also reports that Clooney (who may also appear in the film) has made offers to actresses Evan Rachel Wood and Marisa Tomei.
The play, named after a subway stop/neighborhood on the DC subway line, centers on a wunderkind press secretary who learns that there are more players in the political game than just the candidates. Tony Award winner John Gallagher Jr. and Chris Noth starred in the world-premiere run at the Atlantic Theater Company in 2008.
Willimon was inspired to write the play after having served on the staff of campaigns for Sen. Chuck Schumer, Sen. Hillary Clinton, Sen. Bill Bradley and most recently, Gov. Howard Dean.
