Off-Broadway's Classic Stage Company will present Night Watch by Lucille Fletcher as the first of this season's Rediscovery Readings.
Directed by Francesca Sabel, the reading will be presented September 29 at 7 PM at the Lynn F. Angelson Theater. Information in the full cast and creative team will be revealed at a later date.
Night Watch debuted on Broadway in 1972 and was later made into a film starring Elizabeth Taylor. The piece centers on a woman named Elaine Wheeler who is plagued by anxious insomnia. During one of her sleepless nights, she witnesses a murder in the abandoned building across the street from her apartment, leading to a series of mysteries and twists as her sanity is questioned by everyone around her.
"I found myself holding my breath as a I first read Night Watch—it has a brilliant intensity and an ability to unmoor you every time you think you have it figured out,” said Jill Rafson, CSC's producing artistic director in a statement. “The characters are as surprising as the story itself, and I can't wait to share them through the fantastic cast we're assembling for this reading."
