It's time to get excited, as we welcome a brand-new season of incredible shows about to light up the Great White Way. First up: Welcome back to the Winter Garden Theatre, Mamma Mia!

The internationally beloved jukebox musical is a theatrical phenomenon built on the iconic songs of the Swedish pop group ABBA. The story's genesis began with producer Judy Craymer, who had the idea of creating a musical using ABBA's music, after a meeting with ABBA songwriters Björn Ulvaeus and Benny Andersson.

With a book by playwright Catherine Johnson, and director Phyllida Lloyd, the musical tells the story of Sophie, a young woman on a Greek island who, on the eve of her wedding, invites three men from her mother Donna's past in a quest to discover which one is her father.

The show premiered in London's West End in 1999 to immediate success. It quickly became a global sensation, with the first North American production opening in Toronto in May 2000.

It made its Broadway debut in 2001 at the Winter Garden Theatre, where it ran for almost 14 years, becoming one of the longest-running shows in Broadway history. And now, Mamma Mia! is back on Broadway at the same theatre where it began.
