The MAP Theater will present the world premiere of Rachel Vail's If We Kiss December 4–20 at the Mezzanine Theatre at A.R.T/New York Theatres.
Directed by Zachary Elkind, opening night for the 90-minute romantic comedy is set for December 7.
The cast will feature Jordan Bellow, Caroline Grogan, Katie Hartke, Jeffrey Omura, and Frankie Placidi.
The play follows high school junior Charlie, who hasn't had her first kiss and isn't very interested. But when Kevin stops her as they get off the bus to school, she suddenly realizes that kissing might be the best thing ever invented. Complications ensue when Charlie’s best friend Tess falls in love with Kevin and when Charlie’s mom and Kevin’s dad start getting involved.
Playwright Vail states, “If We Kiss was a book about what happens when you feel jealous of your best friend, how the drip drip of that insidious poison can ultimately shatter the relationship. But this turned into a play about love—its costs and responsibilities and heartbreak, but also its excitement and flat-out delight.”
The upcoming production will also have scenic design by Anna Grigo, costume design by Alyssa Korol, and lighting design by Riva Fairhall.
Natalie Wagner is the production stage manager. Spencer Lutvak produces.
