Casting has been announced for the upcoming Melbourne staging of Dream Lover—The Bobby Darin Musical, which made its world premiere last year at the Sydney Lyric Theatre and will begin performances at Arts Centre Melbourne December 27.

Australian entertainer David Campbell, seen Off-Broadway in Stephen Sondheim's Saturday Night, will reprise his role as Bobby Darin with Hannah Fredericksen as Sandra Dee, Bobby Darin’s wife.

The two actors will be joined by Marina Prior in the roles of showgirl Polly, Darin's mother, and Mary Douvan; Marney McQueen as Darin's sister Nina; Rodney Dobson as Charlie, the partner of Nina; and Martin Crewes as Steve Blauner, Darin’s oldest friend, biggest fan, and longtime manager.

The ensemble comprises Danielle Barnes, Ian Bliss, Ella Burns, Jan Di Pietro, Stefanie Jones, Andrew Kroenert, Jess Lindon, Natasha Paramor, Thern Reynolds, Josh Robson, Suzanne Steele, Ellen Sutton, Riley Sutton, Jack Van Staveren, Drew Weston, and Deone Zanotto.

Dream Lover—The Bobby Darin Musical is based on an original concept and stage play by Frank Howson and John-Michael Howson, and adapted for the stage by Frank Howson with Simon Phillips, who directs, and Carolyn Burns. The show includes 34 hits from the ’50s and ’60s including “Mack The Knife,“ “Beyond the Sea,” “Splish Splash,” and “Dream Lover.”

Dream Lover—The Bobby Darin Musical is produced by John Frost and John and Barbara Gilbert of Gilbert Theatrical.
