International News Cast Complete for Watermill's Actor-Musician Barnum, Starring Evita's Matt Rawle

Casting is complete for the The Watermill Theatre's summer production of the Tony-nominated musical Barnum, which will play the U.K. venue July 2–September 8.

Directed by Jonathan O’Boyle with choreography by Oti Mabuse, the production will feature an ensemble cast of actor-musicians and circus performers.

Leading the cast as P.T. Barnum will be Matt Rawle (Evita) alongside Monique Young (Sondheim’s Old Friends) as Charity Barnum and Penny Ashmore (Ride of the Valkyries) as Jenny Lind with Fergus Rattigan (The Sovereign) as General Tom Thumb, Tania Mathurin (The Witches) as Joice Heth, Josh Barnett (Newsies) as James Bailey, and Tom Sterling (The Phantom of the Opera) as Edgar Templeton.

The ensemble will include Emma Jane Morton, Tom Sowinski, Jessica Jolleys, Charis Alexandra, and Elena Bluck, plus onstage swings Kaine Hatukai and Laura Sillett, and circus performers Kiera Brunton, Emily Odunsi, Dan Holland, and Andre Rodrigues.

Featuring music by Cy Coleman, lyrics by Michael Stewart, and a book by Mark Bramble, the musical chronicles the life of visionary P.T. Barnum who eventually founded the Barnum & Bailey Circus. The musical received 10 1980 Tony nominations, including Best Musical. It won three Tonys, including one for its star, Jim Dale.

The upcoming production will also have circus direction by Amy Panter; musical supervision by George Dyer, who is reorchestrating the original score for the 18-member cast; set and costume design by Lee Newby; and lighting design by Jai Morjaria with circus consultancy from the National Centre for Circus Arts.

The production manager is Tom Nickson.
