London News Cast Complete for New Adaptation of George Orwell's 1984, Premiering at Theatre Royal Bath

Lindsay Posner will direct the Ryan Craig-penned script for the touring production.

Casting is now complete for Theatre Royal Bath's previously announced new adaptation of George Orwell's 1984, penned by Ryan Craig (Charlotte and Theodore). Directed by Lindsay Posner, the production will run September 20-28, opening September 25.

The brief run will be followed by a U.K. tour, playing dates in Malvern, Poole, Guildford, Cambridge, Brighton, Richmond, and Liverpool.

The cast will feature Keith Allen (The Young Ones, The Pembrokeshire Murders) as O’Brien with Mark Quartley (Inside Man, The Tempest) as Winston, Eleanor Wyld (Macbeth, The Merchant of Venice) as Julia, and David Birrell (King John, Bodies) as Parsons. Niamh Bennett will be the Voice of the Telescreen with Lewis Hart as the camera operator.

Written in 1949, Orwell's dystopian thriller remains startlingly timely, telling a story of a world where one's every move is being watched and monitored. An earlier adaptation, by Robert Icke and Duncan Macmillan, played a Broadway run in 2017.

The upcoming touring production will also have set, costume, and video design by Justin Nardella, lighting design by Paul Pyant, sound design by Giles Thomas, associate video design by Stanley Orwin-Fraser, casting by Ginny Schiller, associate direction by George Jibson, and assistant design by Lorelei Cairns.
