Mezzacappa was born in Brooklyn, and studied with Weidman, as well as Nona Schurman, Peter Hamilton, and Ernestine Stodelle. She helped stage Weidman's works in New York and for dance programs around the country.

Carol Mezzacappa, Dancer and Choreographer, Dies
Dancer and choreographer Carol Mezzacappa died of brain cancer in a Brooklyn hospice on October 12, the New York Times reports. She was 47.
With her husband, Craig Gabrian, Mezzacappa founded the company Dance Consort: Mezzacappa-Gabrian, and its junior company, Young Dancers in Repertory. Both companies focus on the movement principles and works of modern-dance pioneers Charles Weidman and Doris Huphrey, and on works influenced by them.
