The new musical Cake: The Marie Antoinette Playlist will play the West End for one week later this year following the success of its U.K. tour. Performances are currently scheduled for September 20-24 at the Lyric Theatre.
Reprising their roles from the tour will be Zizi Strallen (Mary Poppins) as Marie Antoinette and Renée Lamb (SIX) as Jeanne, with additional casting to be announced.
Blending a pop score with 18th century French court politics, Cake retells the story that helped to spark the French revolution: a scandal that implicated Queen Marie Antoinette in a scheme to defraud the crown jewelers.
Originally commissioned by Paul Taylor-Mills (Heathers; In the Heights), Cake: The Marie Antoinette Playlist features a book by Morgan Lloyd Malcolm and Tasha Taylor Johnson, music and lyrics by Jack McManus and Tasha Taylor-Johnson, and direction and choreography by Drew McOnie. Set and costume design are by Sami Fendall with lighting design by Joshie Harriette and sound design is by Andy Sharman. Casting is by Will Burton.
