Frozen stars Caissie Levy and Patti Murin, who play Elsa and Anna, respectively, in Disney's latest Broadway musical, stopped by The Today Show March 30 to discuss bringing the memorable roles to the stage. “We were so emotional,” said Levy of the March 22 opening night. “Lots of tears,” added Murin. “Joyful ones,” Levy clarified.
Hosts Hoda Kotb and Jill Martin asked the actors about translating the animated feature to the stage. “I think they did a really great job of keeping the story, and the characters are all recognizable,” said Murin, “making sure it was Frozen the story and not Frozen the franchise.”
Of course, Levy has the privilege (and pressure) of singing the Oscar-winning “Let It Go” eight times a week. “Every night I think about it and there's this expectation, but the lyrics are all about releasing the need to be perfect for everybody else all the time. So on the days I'm nervous or scared—because those days happen—I think about those lyrics, and it's mostly just such a thrill to sing it.”
