Broadway News Broadway's Wicked Will Welcome Alyssa Fox as Elphaba in March

The international hit musical continues at the Gershwin Theatre.

Alyssa Fox

Alyssa Fox will take over the role of Elphaba in the hit Broadway production of Stephen Schwartz and Winnie Holzman's Wicked beginning March 7. She will succeed Talia Suskauer, who will play her final performance at the Gershwin Theatre March 5.

Last seen as an Elphaba standby on Broadway, Fox also played the role of the not-so-wicked witch in the musical's national tour and understudied the part in the San Francisco company of Wicked. Fox was also the standby for the role of Elsa in the Broadway company of Frozen.

Fox will join a cast that includes McKenzie Kurtz as Glinda (Kurtz joins the company in February, succeeding Brittney Johnson), Tony winner Cleavant Derricks as The Wizard, Tony winner Michele Pawk as Madame Morrible, James D. Gish as Fiyero, Tony nominee Clifton Davis as Doctor Dillamond, Mikayla Renfrow as Nessarose, and Michael Wartella as Boq.

Wicked began previews on Broadway October 8, 2003, with an official opening October 30. The original cast included Tony winners Idina Menzel and Kristin Chenoweth as, respectively, the green-faced, misunderstood Elphaba and the curly-locked Glinda. Wicked has subsequently been performed in over 100 cities in 16 countries. In October 2019, the international hit musical surpassed Les Misérables to become the fifth longest-running production in Broadway history.

The musical, which reopened on Broadway September 14, 2021, following the pandemic shutdown, is produced by Marc Platt, Universal Stage Productions, The Araca Group, Jon B. Platt, and David Stone.
