National Tour News Broadway’s Amazing Grace Kicks Off National Tour The 27-state tour begins November 17 at the Museum of the Bible in Washington, D.C.

The Broadway musical Amazing Grace is set to hit the road next month when it launches a 27-state national tour. The tour will begin with an eight-week run at the Museum of the Bible in Washington, D.C., where it will inaugurate the new museum’s 472-seat theatre.

Performances will begin in D.C. November 17 and will run there through January 8, 2018.

Other stops on the national tour include New Haven, Connecticut; Fayetteville, North Carolina; Savannah, Georgia; Sarasota, Florida; Cleveland, Ohio; Louisville, Kentucky; New Orleans, Louisana; and El Paso, Texas, among many more. For the full schedule visit amazinggracemusical.com.

Amazing Grace is written by Christopher Smith (book, music, and lyrics) and Arthur Giron (book). Gabriel Barre, who directed the Broadway production, reunites with choreographer Christopher Gattelli for the national tour. Music direction will be by Keith Levenson.

The new musical, which is inspired by the true story behind the song “Amazing Grace,” details the story of John Newton, a former slave ship captain who later joined the abolition movement. The show debuted on Broadway in June 2015 with a cast led by Josh Young as Newton, Chuck Cooper as Pakuteh, Tom Hewitt as Captain Newtown, and Erin Mackey as Mary Catlett.

Performances ran on Broadway through October 2015.

The national tour of Amazing Grace will feature a cast made up of Michael Burrell (Oklahoma!, Legally Blonde, Evita) as John Newton, Russell Rinker (Blue Man Group, South Pacific) as Captain Newton, Isaiah Bailey (Moses, Dreamgirls, Big Fish) as Thomas/Pakuteh, and Eleanor Todd (Parade, Big Fish) as Mary Catlett.

Completing the cast will be Monique Elinor Barnes, Kelli Blackwell, Wyn Delano, Shannan E. Johnson, Jennifer Lyons Pagnard, David Sanborn, Joshua Simon, David Socolar, James Tarrant, Kanysha Williams, Jordan Campbell, Colleen Clancy, Nicki Elledge, Dion Montéz Jarrett, Da’Von Moody, Briana Gibson Reeves, Morgan Scott, and Andrew Tarquinio.

Amazing Grace is produced by Alex Rankin/Continental Productions with artistic consultant Carolyn Rossi Copeland/CRC Productions.

The creative team also includes Kenny Seymour (orchestrations), Edward Pierce and Eugene Lee (set design), Toni-Leslie James (costume design), Shannon Slaton (sound design), Ken Billington (lighting design), Robert- Charles Vallance (wig design), and David Leong (fight and movement).
