Grosses Broadway Grosses Analysis: A Beautiful Noise Starts Previews With $1 Million Club in Sight

The Neil Diamond biomusical stars Will Swenson at the Broadhurst Theatre.

Broadway had its best performing week since July last week, with the 32 currently running shows bringing in $29,813,739, a jump of nearly $2.5 million from the week prior. Capacity remained largely unchanged at a cumulative 84.15%, a slight dip in a season that has been pretty consistently sitting with 90% of seats filled.

Among the winners this week was Broadway's newest jukebox biomusical, A Beautiful Noise, The Neil Diamond Musical, which began previews at the Broadhurst November 2. With an average ticket price of $166.32 and 5,081 tickets sold, the Will Swenson-led musical brought in $845,074.22 at the box office, placing it well within striking range of joining the coveted $1 million club—and that's just over five previews.

Long-running musicals were the most attended, with The Lion King, readying to celebrate its 25th anniversary on Broadway November 13, bringing in 13,371 attendees and The Phantom of the Opera, set to end its historic 35-year run on the Main Stem in February, welcoming 12,930 theatregoers. Both were also among the highest-grossing shows of the week, with The Lion King ranking third after The Music Man and Hamilton and Phantom coming in sixth. MJ The Musical and Funny Girl rounded out the top five.
