Regional News Brittney Mack, Evan Tyrone Martin, Tracee Beazer, More Will Lead Cast of Muny's Color Purple

Lili-Anne Brown will direct the summer production with choreography by Breon Arzell at the St. Louis outdoor theatre.

Initial casting has been announced for the Muny premiere of the 2005 Broadway musical The Color Purple, which will play the St. Louis venue August 3-9.

Lili-Anne Brown will direct the production with choreography by Breon Arzell and music direction by Jermaine Hill.

The company will be headed by Brittney Mack (Six) as Celie, Nasia Thomas (Caroline, or Change) as Nettie, Evan Tyrone Martin (Blues in the Night) as Mister, Tracee Beazer (Frozen) as Shug Avery, Gilbert Domally (Choir Boy) as Harpo, and Nicole Michelle Haskins (Hopelessly Devoted) as Sofia. Additional casting will be announced.

The musical adaptation of Alice Walker's Pulitzer Prize-winning novel (and the popular 1985 Stephen Spielberg film) features a book by Marsha Norman and music and lyrics by Brenda Russell, Allee Willis, and Stephen Bray.

Casting is by The Telsey Office. 

The Muny’s 2022 season also includes Chicago (June 13-19), Lerner and Loewe’s Camelot (June 22-28), Disney and Cameron Mackintosh’s Mary Poppins (July 5-13), Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street (July 16-22), Legally Blonde The Musical (July 25-31), and Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat (August 12-18).
