Cyrus will play slick lawyer Billy Flynn through Dec. 23.

Cyrus, who is also father to singer-actress Miley Cyrus, previously told USA Today he had caught John O'Hurley's performance as Flynn about a year ago. "His performance was so brilliant," Cyrus said, "and I fell in love with this character. He's got a lot of heart and soul, but he's got an agenda, too. I like that contradiction."

Billy Ray Cyrus' recordings, which include the hits "Achy Breaky Heart" and "Some Gave All," have sold more than 25 million albums internationally; he has also had three No. 1 hit singles. Over the course of 11 studio albums since 1992, Cyrus has earned nearly 30 chart singles, including 15 Top 40 hits.

Cyrus' most recent album, "I'm American," was released last year in conjunction with his hit TV series "Surprise Homecoming" on TLC. His newest album, titled "Change My Mind," is scheduled for release in late October/early November on Blue Cadillac Records.

Over the last decade, Cyrus has established himself as a successful actor in TV and film, performing in lead roles such as the title character of the PAX-TV series "Doc" and as Robby Ray Stewart, the father of daughter Miley Cyrus' fictional character in the smash Disney Channel series "Hannah Montana." He joins a Broadway cast that currently includes Amy Spanger, Amra-Faye Wright, Cory English and Carol Woods.

The revival of Chicago began life as one of the three annual Encores! presentations offered by City Center. The musical opened on Broadway at the Richard Rodgers Theatre in November 1996 where it remained through February 1997. The musical transferred to the Shubert Theatre on Feb. 11, 1997, and played that house through Jan. 26, 2003. The revival reopened at the Ambassador Theatre, its current home, on Jan. 29, 2003. Chicago won the Tony Award for Best Revival of a Musical in 1997 as well as awards for actors Bebe Neuwirth and James Naughton, director Walter Bobbie, lighting designer Ken Billington and choreographer Ann Reinking. The original production was directed and choreographed by the late Bob Fosse. The modern classic has music by John Kander, lyrics by Fred Ebb and book by Ebb and Fosse.
