Stars of the stage and screen are set to perform in An Enemy of the People: Extinction Rebellion—a free hybrid event held 6:00-9:00 PM EST June 12 in Times Square. The event will take place on Times Square’s Red Steps, and will be broadcast live on Zoom.

Hosted by Theater of War Productions and environmental activists Extinction Rebellion, the event will feature actors and a chorus of climate activists, scientists, journalists, elected officials, and citizens performing scenes from Henrik Ibsen’s An Enemy of the People to raise awareness for climate change. The material is adapted, directed, and facilitated by Bryan Doerries.

Featured performers include Bill Murray (Lost in Translation), Kathryn Erbe (Law & Order: Criminal Intent), Taylor Schilling (Orange is the New Black), Brían F O'Byrne (Little Boy Blue), Peter Francis James (Oz), Jay O. Sanders (True Detective), NYC Public Advocate Jumaane Williams, former Washington Post theatre critic Peter Marks, Extinction Rebellion’s Nate Smith, and more.

In March, Extinction Rebellion took action during a performance of the current Broadway production of An Enemy of the People (which is not affiliated with the June 6 event). Protesters disrupted the show during the play’s town hall scene, calling attention to the climate crisis. They were escorted out of the show, though the production's stars Jeremy Strong and Michael Imperioli has expressed support for the protestors, with Strong saying, "It only underlined the message of the play, which is that we’re all in this together and we’re all in deep shit."
