The Tony- and Oscar-winning songwriting team of Benj Pasek and Justin Paul will reunite with La La Land producer Marc Platt on an upcoming animated film. Joining them to pen the screenplay is Broadway performer turned writer Tim Federle.
According to Variety, the film (currently titled Foster) will follow a super fan of a fantasy series disappointed in the novels' conclusion. He finds the author to voice his grievances, resulting in their transportation to a magical universe.
In addition to their Tony- and Grammy-winning score for Dear Evan Hansen, Pasek and Paul won an Oscar for the La La Land song "City of Stars" and are again nominated this year for “This Is Me” from The Greatest Showman. The two also wrote the score to the musical adaptation of A Christmas Story and earned a Tony nomination for their work in 2013. The musical was adapted as a live musical event last year by Fox.
Federle is the author of the Nate series (Better Nate Than Never and Five, Six, Seven Nate!, with Nate Expectations releasing in September) and a collection of literary cocktail guides. Following appearances in Gypsy, Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, The Little Mermaid, and Billy Elliot, he made his Broadway writing debut as a collaborator on the book for Tuck Everlasting.
Karen Disher and Steve Martino are set to co-direct the upcoming film.
