A U.K. newcomer and two stage veterans have joined the cast of the upcoming Back to the Future musical, set to make its world premiere at the Manchester Opera House February 20, 2020, before a subsequent West End bow.
Recent LAMDA grad Hugh Coles, seen in the 2018 comedy The Festival, will play George McFly, with Rosanna Hyland (West End’s School of Rock, Sister Act) as Lorraine Baines and current The View UpStairs star Cedric Neal (The Voice UK, Motown, Porgy and Bess) as Mayor Goldie Wilson.
The three join the previously announced Olly Dobson, who will star as Marty McFly (the role originated on screen by Michael J. Fox) in the John Rando-helmed musical. Additional casting will be announced at a later date.
The show, featuring a book by the movie’s co-writer, Bob Gale, will feature additional songs from the source material, including “The Power of Love” and “Johnny B. Goode,” but will largely be comprised of an original score by Glen Ballard (Jagged LittlePill) and original film composer Alan Silvestri. Dobson previously offered a sample of the duo’s collaboration with the track “Put Your Mind to It.”
