An 18-year-old theatregoer attending a performance of the musical Grease was hospitalized after falling from the balcony of Blackpool Grand Theatre, and the rest of the performance was canceled.
The theatre tweeted later, “#STATEMENT: We can confirm an incident @Grand_Theatre this evening. Police/Ambulance service attended, performance was abandoned.”

The production was being staged on an amateur license, and in a statement the chairman of Blackpool and Fylde Light Opera Company Phil Chapman confirmed that performances of the show would resume June 3. “This has obviously been a shocking and upsetting incident. Thankfully, we understand his injuries are not life-threatening and our thoughts are with the young man and his family. After consulting both members of the production company and the theatre staff, together we have decided that the show will go on.”
