Ariana DeBose seems to be headed for Sony's Spider-Man Universe. The Hamilton actor will reportedly star in the upcoming Kraven the Hunter, according to Deadline. If true, DeBose would be joining the cast as the superpowered villain Calypso, a voodoo priestess who manipulates Kraven to team up against Spider-Man.
Kraven the Hunter sees Aaron Taylor Johnson in the title role. Johnson made his West End debut in the 2020 production of The Pillowman. He also starred as Pietro Maximoff in Marvel's Avengers: Age of Ultron.
DeBose, having just won a Golden Globe, a SAG Award, and a Hollywood Critics Association Film Award for her role as Anita in Steven Spielberg's West Side Story, was last seen on Broadway playing Disco Donna in Summer: The Donna Summer Musical, Jane in A Bronx Tale the Musical, and the bullet in Hamilton. The Oscar nominee has also starred in Ryan Murphy's movie adaptation of The Prom as Alyssa Green and Apple TV's musical comedy series Schmigadoon!.
Kraven the Hunter will be directed by J.C. Chandor, with Avi Arad and Matt Tolmach producing, and Art Marcum, Matt Holloway and Richard Wenk writing. The movie is expected to premiere early next year.
