Variety reports that Applegate will be Broadway's newest Max Bialystock, beginning Oct. 7. Applegate will replace current Bialystock Lewis J. Stadlen, who is leaving the Tony-winning musical due to a hip injury. Oct. 7 will also see the return of Gary Beach to the Broadway production of the Mel Brooks musical. Beach will play the role that won him a Tony Award, Roger De Bris.
In addition to his work in the touring and Los Angeles productions of The Producers, Fred Applegate has also appeared in the Broadway revival of The Sound of Music as well as the L.A. production of Beauty and the Beast. His screen credits include "Life . . . and Stuff," "Stuart Saves His Family," "Woops!," "We'll Take Manhattan," "Spaced Invaders," "FM," "9 to 5" and "Newhart."
