Having wrapped his six season run as Elijah on the TV series Girls, Andrew Rannells is planning his return to the New York stage May 4 as part of the cast of The Songs of Lewis Flinn, a pair of concerts at Feinstein’s/54 Below honoring the composer of the 2011 Broadway musical Lysistrata Jones.
Rannells, who earned a Tony Award nomination for his performance as Elder Price in the original cast of The Book of Mormon, was seen on Broadway earlier this season in a revival of Falsettos. He appeared on Girls 2012–2017, and his character Elijah concluded by getting cast in a fictional Broadway musical based on the film White Men Can’t Jump.
Rannells will perform in the May 4 concerts alongside Broadway stars Santino Fontana (Cinderella), Alysha Umphress (On the Town), Ashley Park (Sunday in the Park With George), Nick Bailey (Casa Valentina), and Metropolitan Opera singer Susanna Phillips, plus members of the original Broadway cast of Lysistrata Jones: Patti Murin (who will next be see on Broadway in Disney’s Frozen), Katie Boren, Kat Nejat, and Biti Strauchn. Lysistrata Jones lasted 30 performances in its original Broadway run.
The concert will include songs from that show, plus a preview of Flinn’s upcoming musical Hood (also with a book by with Douglas Carter Beane), which begins June 29 at the Dallas Theater Center. Additional songs in the Feinstein’s/54 Below concert will be drawn from Flinn’s collaborations with Steven Sater and Charles Busch, as well as new songs written especially for this concert.
The two performances are scheduled at 7 and 9:30 PM. Tickets cost $30–$80 plus a $35 food/beverage minimum. Click here to order tickets.
