Lloyd Webber, who was also involved in the BBC reality program for the West End's Wizard of Oz, is prepping Superstar for a 2012 stadium tour that would kick off in the States before hitting the O2 in England.
As previously reported, Lloyd Webber told Britain's Daily Telegraph last year that the world tour would "go back to its rock roots." He also commented, "Every major artist I've spoken to has said they want to be in it. I'm not going to name names, but I'm getting demo tapes from some of the top artists in the world. It's extraordinary. We want to play 200 arenas in America and they are planning the route for the U.S. tour already. Then, hopefully, there will be a world tour, going through the O2 in England. I'm very excited about it."
Lloyd Webber won Best Original Score Tony Awards for his work on Evita, Cats and Sunset Boulevard. His other Broadway credits include The Woman in White, Bombay Dreams, Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, The Phantom of the Opera, Aspects of Love and Starlight Express, among others. A Broadway revival of Jesus Christ Superstar will arrive later this season.
