"Save a Dance" is based on the mission of American Dance Machine for the 21st Century, which is to "create a 'Living Archive' of great masterpieces of American musical theater choreography in order to preserve these great dance works, present them and to educate audiences, dancers and choreographers."
ADM21 will make its Joyce Theater debut Nov. 11-16. The event will feature eight performances of musical theatre dance numbers by Rob Ashford, Michael Bennett, Patricia Birch, Andy Blankenbueler, Gower Champion, Jack Cole, Henry LeTang, Jerry Mitchell, Jerome Robbins, Susan Stroman and more.
Each dance will be performed by a company of dancers and guest performers from the musical theatre, ballet and contemporary dance worlds, featuring live music. Complete programming will be announced at a later date.
ADM21 has worked with artists including Susan Stroman, Donna McKechnie, Robert La Fosse, Marge Champion, Nicole Fosse and Kathryn Doby to reconstruct the original choreography of Michael Bennett's "Music and the Mirror" from A Chorus Line; Jerome Robbins' "Mr. Monotony" from Jerome Robbins' Broadway; Susan Stroman's "Simply Irresistible" from Contact; Bob Fosse's "Beat Me Daddy Eight to the Bar" from Big Deal; and Michael Bennett¹s "Turkey Lurkey Time" from Promises, Promises.
