International News Almeida’s Mary Stuart Will Transfer to West End With Juliet Stevenson and Lia Williams The two actors alternate in the historic roles of Elizabeth I and Mary Stuart in Schiller’s classic.

The Almeida Theatre’s acclaimed production of Friederich Schiller’s Mary Stuart, which stars Juliet Stevenson and Lia Williams, will transfer to London’s West End for a limited run beginning January 13, 2018.

Directed by Robert Icke, who also wrote the new adaptation, the actors’ roles are determined by an onstage coin toss just prior to each performance. Mary Stuart officially opens January 25 for a run through March 31.

The political drama delves into the unseen power-play of Britain history’s most crucial days.

Mary Stuart will then play a limited U.K. tour, visiting Theatre Royal Bath (April 4–14), Salford Lowry (April 17–21), and Cambridge Arts Theatre (April 23–28).

Additional casting for the West End transfer will be announced at a later date.

The production is designed by Hildegard Bechtler, with lighting by Jackie Shemesh, sound by Paul Arditti, video by Tim Reid, and original composition by Laura Marling. Casting is by Julia Horan CDG.
