Casting is complete for the Barrington Stage Company's upcoming production of the Tony-winning musical La Cage aux Folles, which will play the Boyd-Quinson Stage June 11-July 6. Opening night in Massachusetts is scheduled for June 16.
Directed by Mike Donahue with choreography by Paul McGill, the cast will be led by Alex Michaels, aka Alexis Michelle (RuPaul’s Drag Race), as Albin and Helen Hayes nominee Tom Story as Georges.
The duo will be joined by Noah Wolfe as Jean Michel, Playbill Search for a Star winner Sally Shaw as Anne, Phillip Taratula (The Skin of Our Teeth) as Jacob, Tanesha Gary (Fat Ham) as Jacqueline, Don Noble (Once) as Edouard Dindon, Michele Ragusa (Flying Over Sunset) as Mme. Dindon, and Drae Campbell (Room for Cream) as Francis.
The “notorious and dangerous” Cagelles will be played by Jonté Jaurel Culpepper as Bitelle, Gabe Friedman aka Kiki BallChange as Chantal, Jules Geiss as Clo-Clo, Aaron Graham as Angelique, and Kyle White as Hannah, and Kevin Murakami (also associate choreographer/dance captain) as Mercedes with Raphe Gilliam and Drew Minard.
Based on the play by Jean Poiret, La Cage has a book by Harvey Fierstein and music and lyrics by Jerry Herman. The musical opened on Broadway in August 1983, subsequently winning six Tony Awards, including Best Musical.
The Barrington production will also have scenic design by Alexander Woodward, costume design by Rodrigo Munoz, lighting design by Philip Rosenberg, sound design by Ken Travis, wig design by Bobbie Zlotnik, makeup design by Kyle Krueger, and musical direction by Angela Steiner. Casting is by McCorkle Casting.
