He is contracted to star in the West End run through January 2012. Gaumond replaces Ricardo Alfonso, who leaves We Will Rock You to star in the new stage version of Irving Berlin's Top Hat.

In other We Will Rock You news, Mazz Murray, the show's longest-serving Killer Queen who played the role from 2004 to 2010 until her departure on maternity leave last year, will make a return to the show for a special two-week farewell season. She will replace the current Killer Queen Brenda Edwards for a two-week stint, Aug. 8-20.

In addition, a special performance of the show on Sept. 5 will be held to mark the 65th birthday of the late Queen front man Freddie Mercury, whose statue towers above the theatre entrance. Proceeds of this special performance will be directed through the Freddie For A Day campaign to The Mercury Phoenix Trust, the charity set up in his name to fight HIV/AIDS worldwide.
