Two-time Olivier Award nominee Michael Xavier has joined the cast of the Broadway premiere of Prince of Broadway, a musical celebration that highlights the legendary, six-decade career of director and producer Harold Prince.
The British actor, who is currently making his Broadway debut alongside Glenn Close in Sunset Boulevard, joins previously announced principal cast members Chuck Cooper, Tony nominees Emily Skinner, Tony Yazbeck, Nancy Opel, Brandon Uranowitz, Janet Dacal, Bryonha Marie Parham, and Kaley Ann Voorhees.
“I’m so delighted to be working with Hal Prince (the King of musical theatre direction) after years of admiring his wonderful work in this industry,” Xavier told Playbill. “To get the chance to put my own stamp on so many iconic characters within the history of musical theatre is truly an honor. Also, working with such a fabulous creative team including Susan Stroman and Jason Robert Brown is bound to be both exciting and fulfilling.”Prince of Broadway will debut on Broadway in a production from Manhattan Theatre Club and Gorgeous Entertainment. Previews will start August 3 prior to an August 24 opening night at MTC’s Samuel J. Friedman Theatre.
Xavier’s West End credits include Olivier-nominated performances in Love Story and Into The Woods. His other theatre credits include Show Boat, The Phantom of the Opera, Assassins, The Pajama Game, and My Fair Lady.Prince of Broadway features both biographical material and songs from many of the shows that earned Prince a record 21 Tony Awards, including West Side Story, A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum, Fiddler on the Roof, Cabaret, Evita, Company, Follies, A Little Night Music, Sweeney Todd, and The Phantom of the Opera. The show had its world premiere in Tokyo, Japan in 2015, starring Skinner, Yazbeck, Opel, Voorhees, and Parham, who are returning to the Broadway staging.

The show features original songs, musical supervision, arrangements, and orchestrations by three-time Tony winner Jason Robert Brown (The Bridges of Madison County), a book by two-time Tony nominee David Thompson (The Scottsboro Boys), co-direction and choreography by five-time Tony winner Susan Stroman (The Producers), and direction by Prince himself.
The creative team for Prince of Broadway also features Tony-winning scenic and projection designer Beowulf Boritt, six-time Tony-winning costume designer William Ivey Long, two-time Tony-winning lighting designer Howell Binkley, wig designer Paul Huntley,and music director Fred Lassen. Casting is by Tara Rubin and Jeffrey Seller is the creative consultant.
