Performances run through Sept. 30.
In Africa My Beautiful, two African women interweave storytelling, personal memories and contemporary, traditional and classical music, capturing the country's complex history and teaching one another about their different worlds.
"I have worked with the magnificent Thuli Dumakude for over thirty years, since she played the lead in Poppie Nongena Off-Broadway many years ago," said producer Eric Krebs in a statement. "When she said to me that she wanted to try to develop a new show with a terrific and multi-talented unknown African singer, I gave her a space to work in and said, 'Go to it.’ The results are a deeply moving performance that is drawing high praise in our workshops."
