Matthew López's Tony-winning drama will begin performances in September at the Geffen Playhouse.

Casting has been announced for the West Coast premiere of Matthew López's The Inheritance, the 2020 Tony winner for Best Play, which will begin previews September 13 in the Geffen Playhouse's Gil Cates Theater prior to an official opening October 1.

Mike Donahue (The Legend of Georgia McBride) will direct the Stephen Daldry production, which will continue through November 27. The play is inspired by E. M. Forster's novel Howards End.

The cast of The Inheritance (Part 1 & Part 2) will include Nic Ashe (Choir Boy) as Adam/Leo, Bill Brochtrup (Secrets of the Trade) as Morgan/Walter Poole, Tantoo Cardinal (Killers of the Flower Moon) as Margaret Avery, Juan Castano (Encanto) as Toby Darling, Jay Donnell (The Color Purple) as Young Man 6/Tristan, Israel Erron Ford (Twelfth Night) as Young Man 2/Jason #1/Doorman #1/Toby’s Other Agent, August Gray Gall (David, My Goliath) as Young Man 3/Young Henry/Tucker, Adam Kantor (The Band’s Visit) as Eric Glass, Eddie Lopez (Madam Secretary) as Young Man 5/Charles Wilcox/Toby’s Agent/Toby’s Dealer, Kasey Mahaffy (Rosencrantz and Guildenstern Are Dead) as Young Man 7/Jasper/Paul Wilcox/Doorman #2, Miguel Pinzon (Woke) as Young Man 4/Young Walter, Avi Roque (The Owl House) as Young Man 8/Jason #2/Clinic Worker, and Tuc Watkins (The Boys in The Band) as Henry Wilcox.

Set in contemporary Manhattan, The Inheritance follows Eric and Toby, 30-somethings who seem to be in love and thriving. But on the cusp of their engagement, they meet an older man haunted by the past and a younger man hungry for a future.

Following its London premiere, The Inheritance  played Broadway's Ethel Barrymore Theatre September 27, 2019-March 11, 2020, subsequently winning four Tony Awards: Best Play, Best Direction of a Play, Best Performance by a Leading Actor in a Play, and Best Performance by a Featured Actress in a Play.

The upcoming production will also have scenic design by Jaimie Todd, original scenic design by Bob Crowley, costume design by Sara Ryung Clement, lighting design by Josh Epstein, sound design by Veronika Vorel, music by composer Paul Englishby, intimacy choreography by Amanda Rose Villarreal, and production supervision by J. Jason Daunter. The assistant stage managers are Marie Jahelka and Shahzad Khan with casting by Phyllis Schuringa.
