Jim Keller's A Pitch From Satchel Paige will play New York City's Carnegie Hall for one night only February 2, 2026, kicking off Black History Month at the historic venue. Verneice Turner will direct the solo show about one of the greatest pitchers in baseball history, Satchel Paige. The performance will be held at Zankell Hall.
Russell C. Holt will star in the dramatization of Paige's life, from climbing out of childhood poverty to making history in Major League Baseball. “Many people know the uplifting story of Jackie Robinson crossing the color line, but fewer know about the struggle of those that came before Jackie,” says Keller in a statement. “Satchel's story is that of hundreds of amazing Black athletes who never got the chance to show the world what they could do."
The play previously made its world premiere in April 2024 at the Paul Robeson Theatre in Buffalo, New York, after launching in 2018 at the New York New Works Theatre Festival.
