Verdi’s La forza del destino opened at London’s Royal Opera House March 21, in a new production starring Anna Netrebko and Jonas Kaufmann. Directed by Christof Loy, it continues performances through April 22.
Conducted by Antonio Pappano, the opening night cast included Netrebko as Leonora and Kaufmann as Don Alvaro—marking their first time singing together in a staged production in 11 years—as well as Ludovic Tézier as Don Carlo di Vargas, Ferruccio Furlanetto as Padre Guardiano, Robert Lloyd as Marquis of Calatrava, and Veronica Simeoni as Preziosilla.
