PlayBlog A Cover Story: Donuts and Royal Family Following the success of his Pulitzer Prize-winning August: Osage County, Tracy Letts brings his latest play Superior Donuts to the Music Box Theatre on Sept. 16. The comedy-drama tells the story of the proprietor of a decrepit Chicago donut shop and his African-American teenage employee who attempts to change the shop for the better.


Just as with his previous work, Donuts began life at Chicago's Steppenwolf Theatre Company.  Tina Landau directs the entire original cast, featuring Michael McKean, Jon Michael Hill, Yasen Peyankov and James Vincent Meredith.

Manhattan Theatre Club kicks off its Broadway season Sept. 15 with a revival of Edna Ferber and George S. Kaufman's The Royal Family at the Samuel J. Friedman Theatre.

The 1927 parody of the Barrymore acting family has not been seen on Broadway since 1976.  Doug Hughes directs a star-packed cast that includes Ana Gasteyer, Tony winner John Glover, Tony Award winner and Oscar nominee Rosemary Harris, Tony Award nominee and Drama Desk Award winner Jan Maxwell, Broadway veteran Larry Pine, Tony Award nominee Tony Roberts and Tony Award nominee Reg Rogers.
