The 8 PM ET concert will be hosted by Tony Award winner and seven-time Emmy nominee Jason Alexander. Those scheduled to perform include Into the Woods Tony nominee Vanessa Williams, Grammy Award winner Stevie Wonder, vocalist Michael Bolton, teen sensation JoJo and country recording artist Jo Dee Messina. The program will also boast the National Symphony Orchestra under the direction of conductor Erich Kunzel, a performance of the "1812 Overture" featuring the U.S. Army Herald Trumpets, the Choral Arts Society of Washington and the National Symphony Orchestra. And, Academy Award winner Cuba Gooding, Jr. will be on hand to present Stevie Wonder with the National Artistic Achievement Award.
Best known for his work on the Emmy-winning TV sitcom "Seinfeld," Jason Alexander is also a Broadway veteran. He made his Broadway debut in the original cast of Stephen Sondheim's Merrily We Roll Along, and he also appeared in The Rink, Broadway Bound, Jerome Robbins' Broadway and The Accomplice. Alexander won a 1989 Tony Award for his work in Jerome Robbins' Broadway, and he also starred opposite Martin Short in the L.A. mounting of Mel Brooks' The Producers.
The annual concert is held on the West Lawn of the U.S. Capitol in Washington, DC. It is free and open to the public.
