The New York Theatre Workshop production of Heidi Schreck’s What the Constitution Means to Me ends its encore run at the Greenwich House Theater December 30. The show transferred to the Off-Broadway house November 27 after wrapping up its extended and acclaimed run at NYTW earlier in the fall.
What the Constitution Means to Me is written and performed by Schreck with direction by Obie Award winner Oliver Butler. Mike Iveson and New York City high school students Rosdely Ciprian and Thursday Williams complete the cast.
Fifteen-year-old Schreck put herself through college by giving speeches about the U.S. Constitution. In her play, she traces the effects of this founding document on generations of women, including many in her family—starting with her great-great-grandmother, a mail-order bride from Germany who died of melancholia.
What the Constitution Means to Me began previews at NYTW September 12, following an acclaimed debut at Clubbed Thumb’s Summerworks Festival in 2017. The NYTW run ended November 4.
