This fall, King Kong will make his Broadway debut; in the clip above, the giant silverback gorilla comes to life. The musical adaptation of King Kong—an earlier incarnation of which premiered in Australia—begins performances October 5 at the Broadway Theatre, where it will officially open November 8.
The title character is portrayed by a one-ton, two-story animatronic puppet created in Melbourne, Australia.
King King follows young actress Ann Darrow (Christiani Pitts) and filmmaker Carl Denham (Eric William Morris) as they voyage from 1930s New York to an uncharted island to capture a great, mysterious wonder. Check out more on how the new show started and its journey to Broadway here.
The upcoming production is directed by Drew McOnie and features a book by Jack Thorne (Harry Potter and the Cursed Child), music and lyrics by Marius de Vries (Bombay Dreams), and additional songs by Eddie Perfect (the Broadway-aimed Beetlejuice).
