Tony winner Lea Salonga (Miss Saigon, Allegiance, Les Misérables, Flower Drum Song), who originated the role of Erzulie in the revival of Once On This Island at Circle in the Square Theatre, returns to the Tony-winning production December 27.
Salonga's return follows the departure of Destiny’s Child singer Michelle T. Williams, who had joined the Once On This Island company November 30 but recently departed the production following doctor’s orders.
Williams’ understudy, Cassondra James, assumed the role of goddess Erzulie through December 26. Tony winner Salonga will stay with the acclaimed revival through its final performance on January 6, 2019.
Once On This Island is the winner of the 2018 Tony Award for Best Revival of a Musical. The production opened December 3, 2017, at Circle in the Square, where it began previews November 9. (Bard SummerScape's acclaimed revival of Oklahoma! heads to the Circle in the Square in March 2019 following an acclaimed run at St. Ann’s Warehouse.)
