George Abud, currently on Broadway in The Band's Visit, and Thom Sesma, recently seen Off-Broadway in Sweeney Todd, is set to join the previously announced Raúl Esparza in Classic Stage Company's upcoming production of The Resistible Rise of Arturo Ui. Helmed by Artistic Director John Doyle, the Bertolt Brecht play will be seen at CSC this fall.
Completing the cast Off-Broadway will be Eddie Cooper, Elizabeth A. Davis, Christopher Gurr, Omozé Idehenre, and Mahira Kakkar.
The Resistible Rise of Arturo Ui tells the story of a Depression-era Chicago mobster (Esparza), who, with the help of his henchmen, manipulates and murders his way to totalitarian rule of the cauliflower trade.
Performances of The Resistible Rise of Arturo Ui will begin October 30 at Classic Stage Company ahead of a November 14 opening.
Written in 1941 while Brecht was in exile from Nazi Germany, The Resistible Rise of Arturo Ui uses a vaudevillian portrayal of American mafia culture to parallel events that brought the Third Reich to power.
The creative team will also include Anne Hould-Ward (costume design), Jane Cox and Tess James (lighting design), Matt Stine (sound design), Bernita Robinson (production stage manager), and Jessica Fleischman (assistant stage manager).
