Katrina Lenk, Tony Shalhoub, and fellow members of the original cast of the Tony-winning musical The Band’s Visit performed a benefit presentation of The Band Visits Cariani October 1 at the Romulus Linney Courtyard Theatre at the Pershing Square Signature Center.
A one-night-only reading, the program featured scenes from John Cariani’s plays, including the widely-produced Almost, Maine. Cariani, who currently plays Itzik in The Band’s Visit, is an acclaimed playwright; Almost, Maine has enjoyed nearly 4,000 productions to date and is the most frequently produced work in North American high schools—beating out A Midsummer Night’s Dream, You Can’t Take It With You, and Our Town—and has been presented in over a dozen languages. He is also the author of Last Gas, LOVE/SICK, and new work cul-de-sac.
The Bands Visits Cariani featured performances by Lenk and Shalhoub—who won Tony Awards for their Band's Visit performances as Dina and Tewfiq, respectively—as well as Bill Army, Layan Elwazani, Adam Kantor, Pomme Koch, Andrew Polk, Rachel Prather, Ahmad Maksoud, James Rana, Jonathan Raviv, Sharone Sayegh, and Kristen Sieh.
