The Outer Critics Circle Awards celebrated King Kong with the Special Achievement Award onstage following the show’s May 22 matinee performance. The mega-musical was recognized for its unprecedented puppetry, honoring those who created the 20-foot marionette puppet as well as the team of puppeteers who bring Kong to life.
Following the announcement of the winners on May 13, the Outer Critics Circle’s gala awards dinner is set for May 23.

King Kong, the musical adaptation of Merian C. Cooper’s adventure novel and the sprawling film franchise it inspired, opened at the Broadway Theatre November 8. Directed and choreographed by Olivier winner Drew McOnie, King Kong follows young actor Ann Darrow (Christiani Pitts) and filmmaker Carl Denham (Eric William Morris) as they voyage from 1930s New York to an uncharted island to capture a great, mysterious wonder.
