Theresa Rebeck's new play Bernhardt/Hamlet officially opened September 25 at the American Airlines Theatre on Broadway. The Roundabout Theatre Company world premiere, which began previews August 31, stars Tony and Olivier Award winner Janet McTeer as trailblazing 19th-century French actor Sarah Bernhardt.
Set against a lavish, late-19th-century production of Hamlet, Rebeck’s new play paints a portrait of a legend, and gives us a behind-the-scenes look at Bernhardt in her historic, make-or-break role.
